Background: Writer (Theatre, Film, Comic Book, Magazine), Producer, Director, Creative Consultant, Script Analyst, Performance Analyst, Professional Singer, Cruise Director (P&O/Thomson Cruises), Networker, 32 years experience in Entertainment & Creative Industries, charity set-up & volunteer.
Working Bio
To date I have a BA degree in the Creative Industries from the University of the West of Scotland Ayr campus.
I was a professional singer in cabaret shows for 28 years and went on to become a performer and then Cruise Director on cruise ships. My past experience and a 10,000 word paper on the Cult Of The Celebrity, Theatre & Politics and The Art of Performance allowed me to begin my degree course at the 3rd year of a 4 year course.
Regarding my past I have written, produced and directed two comedy musical plays, 'The Wise Guys' & 'Mistletoe and the Devines' the latter being a commission by Motherwell Civic Theatre & North Lanarkshire Council which played two years running to audiences of 900+, both starred Christian (Chris McClure).
I also co-wrote ‘Two On The Roof’ which opened at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall to great accolade.
I have in the past co-setup a charity called Fool On, this charity gives encouragement for recovery, confidence and learning to people with mental health disabilities to perform via the performing arts.
Also, I was one of three directors who set up the CIC charity called ‘Film Industry Scotland’ which set up to create a hub and a funding source for independent film makers.
A treasured moment for me was when I became the written voice of the iconic Puffin from Puffin Books in their magazine called Puffin Post, here I also created quizzes and was the scriptwriter for the mags centre page comic.
I also have written, produced and directed 3 radio adverts advertising the company ‘Carpet Ways’, each advert had 3 months air time and I was also creative/marketing manager with the multi award winning band Raintown who supported Wet Wet Wet at Glasgow Green.
At one point I was also a reporter for the Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival and indeed I have written articles for quite a few magazines.
Lately I had become a trustee & member of the board at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall Trust, this is the oldest surviving Music Hall in the World where Stan Laurel made his debut, it was here I would give talks regarding the history of this iconic building.
Pre-lockdown I was approached by Simon Forrester of Engine 1991 Creations where he commissioned me to write two feature length film scripts, these films were called ‘Caged Rats’ & ‘Demons Among Us’.
On delivery of the two scripts Simon then made the decision to convert ‘Caged Rats’ into a thrilling well illustrated adult comic book to which volume 1 was released on April 1st 2023.
As of 2024, I am now volunteer sponsorship/funding manager & show host at the community charity radio station Shire Radio.
